A clearer page.
A little less gray.

Make a photographed or scanned page easier to read. Lighten the paper, bring out the ink, and compare the result before you download.

1 Choose a document photo

Up to 20 MiB, 24 megapixels and 12,000 px per side. Source orientation is applied. For PDF scans, first use PDF to Images. Photos are checked by their contents, not their extension.

2 Bring out the page

Estimates nearby paper brightness to reduce gray backgrounds and mild uneven lighting. Start gently; stronger lightening can fade pale ink or change colors.

PNG is usually useful for text and diagrams. JPEG can soften small text. Transparent areas become white in both formats. Source metadata is discarded; source files stay unchanged.

Cleaned preview

Your cleanup preview will appear here.

Live previews are reduced to at most 640 × 480 px. Nearby-paper estimates and fine edges can differ at full resolution. After export, the lower preview shows the actual encoded image. Inspect the download at full size.

Cleanup changes pixel colors and can erase faint text, pencil, stamps or other details. Keep the original and compare important marks. This tool does not perform OCR, recover blur, straighten perspective or remove redactions.

Your documents stay with you. Cleanup runs in a local browser worker. No photo is uploaded. Remove the image or leave the page to release its bitmap, previews and download links. Original dimensions are retained; no official document acceptance is promised.

Make the page easier to read.

  1. Start with a clear photo

Use an evenly lit image of light paper with darker writing. Crop the edges or correct rotation first with Crop & Rotate. A sharp source helps more than a strong filter.

  2. Lighten gently

Increase paper lightening to reduce gray backgrounds, then adjust brightness and contrast. Keep Color mode for colored annotations or stamps. Grayscale removes color; Black & white turns every pixel into black or white.

  3. Compare and download

For example, lighten a photographed receipt while checking that pale price digits remain legible. Reset if the settings remove detail. Export PNG or JPEG and inspect the full-size result before sharing.

What cleanup can and cannot do

Can it remove shadows and gray paper?

Paper lightening estimates a local average brightness and brightens pixels relative to it. It can help with light gray paper or mild uneven lighting. Deep shadows, colored paper, creases, photographs and dense printing may need different settings or a better source photo.

Will faint text and colored marks be preserved?

Not always. Strong lightening, contrast and threshold settings can remove pale details or change colors. Start with Color mode and gentle settings. Keep an unchanged original; cleanup is not a way to authenticate or restore a document.

Can I clean up a scanned PDF?

This tool accepts one JPEG, PNG or WebP image. Use PDF to Images first, then clean the exported pages individually. Use Images to PDF to combine cleaned images afterward. It does not create searchable text.

Does the download keep the same dimensions?

Yes, it keeps the browser-oriented source pixel dimensions. Transparent areas become white and source metadata is discarded. Browser image density tags may differ from the original. Use Dimensions & DPI Checker for print-size estimates.

What are the processing limits?

Input is limited to 20 MiB, 24 megapixels and 12,000 px per side; encoded output is capped at 60 MiB. Preview cleanup has a 15-second worker limit and full export a 60-second budget. Large images can use substantial browser memory; try a smaller image if needed.

Can I cancel or use the keyboard?

Use Tab to reach controls and arrow keys on each slider. New settings replace pending preview work. Cancel terminates active pixel processing; an in-flight browser decode or image encode must finish before its data is released. Changed settings invalidate previous downloads.
