Output settings

Unavailable encoders are disabled after testing your browser. A format fallback is never downloaded under the wrong extension.

Quality is a browser encoder setting, not a measured score. PNG ignores quality. Even 100% JPEG/WebP is not guaranteed lossless.

JPEG always uses the background fill. Uncheck transparency for opaque PNG/WebP output. Existing opaque backgrounds are not removed.

The checkerboard indicates transparency. After export, the preview shows the actual encoded image. Outputs are limited to 60 MiB. Inspect fine details at full size.

Your photo stays on your device. Processing uses browser memory. No uploads, accounts or remote processing. Original files are unchanged. Remove the image or leave this page to release retained resources.

Choose a format for the file’s purpose.

  1. JPEG for photographs

JPEG offers adjustable compression for photos. It removes transparency and may introduce artifacts around text or hard edges. Choose a background before converting a transparent logo.

  2. PNG for crisp graphics

PNG preserves the canvas pixels without lossy compression and can keep alpha transparency. Converting a JPEG to PNG cannot restore detail already lost and can produce a larger file.

  3. WebP when supported

WebP offers adjustable lossy compression with transparency. Confirm the receiving website accepts WebP. Only choose it when your browser’s encoder is available.

What changes during conversion?

Will the image be resized?

No. We preserve browser-oriented pixel dimensions. Use the Document Photo Resizer when you need a new size. EXIF orientation is applied before re-encoding.

Will the output always be smaller?

No. Size depends on image detail, format and quality. The measured comparison reports increases too. Use the Image Compressor when you need a maximum KB target.

Are metadata and color profiles preserved?

Source metadata is discarded. Canvas decoding and encoding can convert color profiles and set a new density tag. This tool is not intended for archival metadata preservation or controlled print color workflows.

Can I convert the same format?

Yes, but it creates a fresh encoding. Repeated lossy encoding can reduce quality. Keep your original; check dimensions and tags with the DPI checker.
